Sweet Cupcake Halloween Treat

After Christmas, Halloween is probably the second holiday where people enjoy great food, lots of scary and interesting costumes and family gatherings. Cooking and baking is really fun for Halloween as you have options to create fun and scary things, including tasty cupcakes. You can get creative and also experiment with many different toppings and decorations.

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Put the liners in the muffin cups. Wisk the 2 cups all-purpose flour. 1 teaspoons baking powder. 2/3 cup sugar. 1/4 teaspoon fine salt. 4 teaspoons baking soda inside a larger bowl. In a separate bowl, beat 2 large eggs with an electric high speed mixer for about two to three minutes.

While you use the mixer, slowly add 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter. 1/2 cup buttermilk. 2 ounces semi-sweet baking chocolate. 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder and 1 teaspoon vanilla to the eggs and mix thoroughly. Finally Pour all integrates into one bowl and mix until everything is properly combined.

Separate the batter in the muffin tins, and fill them up until one half of their capacity. Start baking them until they are done and you can check that with a toothpick stick inside the cupcakes. If it comes out clean then they are done. Usually the baking lasts around twenty to thirty minutes. Let the cupcakes cool down for about ten minutes before you remove the tin.

Cupcake Frosting & Toppings

Next phase is the preparation of cupcake frosting. Mix 3/4 cup confectioner sugar, 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract inside a bowl with a mixer until it gets fluffy and light. Slowly add 6 tablespoons of heavy cream until the frosting becomes smooth. You can add food coloring per your wishes and then place the frosting in a refrigerator until it becomes firm.

To Make a scary Halloween witches hat, make a circle on the middle of the cupcake. Use a knife for cutting a cone-like shape at the proper angle. Start rotating the cupcake to finish one full circle and then remove the center from the inside. Repeat the procedure with all remaining cupcakes.

Scoop the frosting inside the center of the cupcake and fill the hole, in order to make a face. Place a cookie on top, put a frosting dot in the middle of the cookie and invert the cone piece on the top in order to make a witches hat. You can use cereal flakes for the hair and different type of candies for eyes and mouth. Refrigerate between 15-30 minutes prior serving.
