Rock Star Halloween Costume Ideas

Ready for Halloween? One of the most critical parts of getting ready for the fall season and planning for all the awesome parties on October 31st is putting together a costume. If you're looking to make a real impression, it pays to put some thought into your outfit — and what better way to get some positive attention from people than to dress like a rock star?

Few people are admired more than the artists that create music that everyone loves, so you're sure to be a hit at every party if you pay homage to one of these kings or queens of rock. Which star to choose, though? Let's take a look at some of your options in the realm of pop music, from rock stars to rap stars:

Elton John

Feeling old school? Show your respect for this classic singer-songwriter by dressing up as him for Halloween. For this costume, you can be as fancy and outrageous or as subdued as you'd like, since honestly Elton has worn just about everything. Try a leopard-print suit if you want to recall the 70's, and maybe something a bit more conservative if you're going for modern Elton. It really depends on what era you'd like to go with, but just don't forget a pair of crazy glasses.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga makes for a great costume because she is such a visual artist and wears all kinds of crazy costumes herself. If you want to go for a simpler look, take a look at her earlier work. Throw on some zebra print and paint a blue lightening bolt on your face. If you want to go for something crazier, take inspiration from her Telephone video and dress in nothing but some caution tape and cigarette glasses. If you're not afraid of PETA (or the smell), you can go all-out and string together a meat dress.

Nicki Minaj

The first thing you're going to need for Nicki Minaj is a wig. Depending on what kind of money and effort you're willing to put into your look, this can be a "party store" wig or a fancier wig from an actual wig shop. Either way, make sure that your hair is an interesting color. Perhaps a purple bob would be in order. As far as clothes goes, less is probably more when it comes to Nicki. Try a small T-shirt and some tiny booty shorts—if you have the booty for it, that is; if not, then there's always padding.

Flava Flav

Besides getting everyone's attention, you're bound to be one of the most breathtakingly annoying guests at the party as Flava Flav, but sometimes that's what you might be going for. Grab a T-shirt that's two sizes too big and hangs down nearly to your knees and a pair of tastefully long shorts for this costume. For accessories get some gold grills for your teeth and, of course, find an over-sized clock that you can hang from your neck. Throw on a pair of sun glasses as well if you feel that something is missing.

Steven Tyler

A true rock star, you'll do best to pick Steven Tyler as your costume if you're somewhat emaciated like him. Grab a pair of skinny jeans and a long, flowy shirt that you can allow to hang open, exposing your sparse chest hairs and just the slight imprint of your ribs. Silk shirts and shirts with leopard or zebra print are ideal. To complete the look, throw on some beaded necklaces and grab a microphone with a pained look on your face.

These are just a few examples of what you might want to go for this Halloween. Just remember that no matter what you do, creativity is what's going to win you the most points.
